Selling Out In Style

If you’re going to sell out you have to do it in style, otherwise you just end up looking like a pathetic shill:

But here’s the thing: is being successful and being paid (or given stuff) for doing something that you enjoy selling out? What about being asked to endorse something that you genuinely like/use/enjoy? I don’t think that’s selling out. Selling out is endorsing something that you have no interest in simply for the cash. If Tejb was lactose intolerant and/or Cocio made him break out in hives then he’d be selling out, much like endorsing a product that you could not possibly benefit from (when Swiftcover asked Iggy Pop to pretend he loved them for cash they did not insure musicians or those in the entertainment industry).

Chances are Tejb is a Cocio nut – although I get the feeling he won’t be so keen on it by the time he’s gotten through the crates he has taking up all the space in his flat. Good luck to him, and his lactose intolerance (kidding!). If he’s selling out, then he’s doing it the right way.

I am now officially a pundit

It’s true. I know it makes me sound big headed and egotistical – but, you know, it’s like totally the truth.

Now that I’ve finished blowing smoke up my own ass I’ll fill you in on what I’m on about….

Tejb is the new Machinima Premier Director. What have I been saying for the past 600 Internet years about who is going to be the next Premier Director? Tejb. That’s right. My prediction was banana crazy awesomely on the money.

Now to head down to William Hill to bet on the General Election and put the lottery on.

Democracy in Action

I love the excitement of a good election race. The debates, the manifestos, the whistle stop tours of places to get votes – the obviousness of who the winner will be long before the votes are counted.

Democracy, it’s a wonderful thing. And yet again, I’m still not talking about the UK General Election. The concepts still apply though.

In my last ‘It’s Election Time….‘ post I described how the majority demographic that bothers to vote reflects the values/persona of the person/party that will win the election. After all, democracy is nothing more than a big popularity contest with the end result being a continuation of the status quo regardless of who you vote for.

Previously, and despite voting for OnlyUseMeBlade, I said that it was a one horse race. That the winner would be Tejb as he most closely matches the majority demographic of the YouTube/Machinima Respawn community. So far I am spot on the money:

Will there be an upset? The xcalizorz peeps seem to be getting a bit more vocal…..

Top 3 spots on Google

I’ve been on the internet for just over a decade and been making and involved with websites for a large proportion of that but this is the first time that I, or my content has had the top three results for any search term other than the site name.

Currently, on Google, my Wings v Ken video and this blog are in the top three slots for the search query “Wings of Redemption vs Ken Burton” – how cool is that:

Quick Update Post

Hmm, seems Sunday is my day for quick update posts….or am I confusing Sunday with another day – well, it has a ‘y’ in it, so why not?

1 – Tejbz is dead. Yup, sorry to break it to you, but our favourite Ikea flatpack meatball was killed by the Origami killer while doing a commentary. I’m very upset – he promised his HD PVR to someone else……

2 – I messed up on my last post about the video intro by putting the YouTube upload as private. I stupidly thought that making it private only stopped it from showing up on YouTube search – but no, it makes it verbotten for everyone! Anyway, check it out here (it’s fairly crappy).

3 – Why am I doing a video intro? I’m going to jump on that rusty old bandwagon until the wheels fall off. When I get some quiet time in the house I’m going to give commentating a go and video some more gameplay – if you missed the first (and shame on you if you did) you can find it here. Which brings us nicely on to……

4 – “Hey dude the quality of that video sucked, and you suck, you sucky suck jockey go and suck your……” well you get the picture, and I get the picture, and the flicker and what not. I know, the video quality is fairly bad, which is why I’m going to save the pennies to get the HD PVR which I mention here. More to come on that in the near future.

5 – The majority of traffic to this blog is still coming from people searching KEN v Wings, or WING v KEN. So, to make it easier for those late to the party (1) there are no sausage rolls left (2) the complete saga can be found:

YouTube MW2 Peeps updated

I’ve added a couple of people to my YouTube Modern Warfare2 subscriptions, so I thought I’d post an updated list. Again, this is not an order of preference, just the way they show on my YouTube account – the previous entries are at the bottom. I’m trying to only subscribe to positive people. There’s enough negativity around as it is. Obviously there are things in the game that not everyone agrees with, but you don’t want to see a 10 minute video of someone complaining about something and demanding that Infinity Ward “fix it immediately”….. The issues that some of these commentators mention are balanced in an Ivana Trump “it is what it is” way. Same as before, if I’ve missed someone you think should be included, let me know.

My First and Last MW2 YouTube Video

I’ve been messing with the idea of recording some of my Modern Warfare 2 gameplay because I’m so awesome at the game I thought it would make a change for people to see an ordinary average player rather than the usual beasted ownage that you see from players like Hutch, SeaNanners, czeko92, theMOODIEswede, tjeb and all the other brilliant players out there.

Anyway, I’d looked at different ways of doing it and as I already had a Dazzle adapter thingy for a video camera I cobbled together a splitter cable. Which was fine except it meant playing in non-HD, and the computer didn’t like the set up. So I went cross-eyed and the PC had a fit.

The next thing was using the video camera to record directly from the screen – a cam, as it were. Again this was fine except for a couple of things:

  • flicker from the screen, it’s a 50hz plasma screen and the slowest shutter speed on the camera is 1/50th so that was unavoidable.
  • Because I was using headphones to play and couldn’t be bothered to make an audio splitter cable there was no actual in game sound
  • Connected directly to the PC I could only get 5 minutes footage before the camera shuts down
  • Couldn’t get the whole screen in without getting a massive border

I made a quick intro bit and stuck some music on it. I avoided the usual Drowning Pool or LaRoux that seems to be popular at the moment and went for something more fitting to my gameplay. It was the first (and only game) I played last night and when I joined the team were already losing. It was on Afghan and I chose my sniper class as I prefer to go sniping on this map. My secondary was the PP2000 which I’ve only just started using and by golly it’s a beast of a gun.

One mistake I made was forgetting that I had claymores equipped which meant that the twice a grenade would have been infinitely more useful I stood in the open and brazenly planted a claymore (although later on it did alert me to the position of the enemy).

I’m not going to make anymore videos for the forseeable future, not because it was difficult, but because I’m not happy with the end quality from the camera set up. But if anyone has an HD PVR that they don’t want I’ll take it off their hands for zero monies (you don’t ask you don’t get).
